Case Study: Handshake app
Handshake app
This case study about a fictional app called “Handshake,” which is a billing and payment app for freelancers and business owners. I created a social media ad and a video script for an assignment.
Social Media Ad
Background
To acquire a new customer, I wrote a social media post that encourages users to visit the Handshake website and sign up for its newsletter. The limit given was a maximum of 200 characters.
The Piece
Handshake makes billing and payments simple. Track project hours, and leave the invoicing to us!
Start a project at Handshake.now. Plus, get a free 30-day trial when you sign up for our newsletter! [handshake emoji]
Rationale
I chose an approachable and fun tone.
I also stayed within the stated character limits. App designs don’t have endless room for text like a website does, and customer’s often skim the words anyway.
Video Script
Background
This assignment entails writing a 20-second video script for the Handshake app that will appear on their website. The goal is to show how a freelancer gets paid by their client.
The video needed to include different shots, descriptions for a voiceover, and a CTA at the end. And all in the brand voice and tones of fun, energetic and informative.

SHOT: Closeup of a hand holding a phone, and pressing on the Handshake icon to open the app.
ROW 2
VO: … send the invoice…
SHOT: Closeup of the job being approved and completed on the app (maybe with a big green checkmark).
ROW 3
